ABOUT THE HUBLEY FAMILY:
Faith and John Hubley created a distinct style of animation. Their films are suffused with a vibrant visual style, imbued with the political and social concerns of the world around them, and enriched musically by the couple’s ongoing associations with a number of noted jazz artists. The Hubleys were also pioneers in their treatment of children in animated films, using the voices of their own children.
Faith made twenty-five films (between 1976 and 2001) celebrating the wonders of life and art of many cultures. Her films were honored at the Cannes, Venice and London film festivals.
Emily Hubley makes short animated films and creates sequences for television and film. She provided animation for John Cameron Mitchell’s HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH, among other films. Her new feature-length live-action film, THE TOE TACTIC, will screen at Columbia College Monday, October 5.
Georgia Hubley, Emily’s sister, co-directed “The Tower” and is one third of the band Yo La Tengo. Georgia has provided the soundtracks to five of Emily’s films.
